Stroke Awareness Month: Know the Signs, Change a Life
Every May, we recognize Stroke Awareness Month—a time dedicated to education, prevention, and sharing stories that matter. May is approaching and we felt it's incredibly important to discuss this important time!
For us, this month is deeply personal.
After Uncle Andy’s stroke, everything changed. Simple things like speaking, writing, and even drawing became challenges he had to relearn from the ground up. But through patience, resilience, and determination, he has continued to make improvements in many aspects of his life, including creating designs for our small business.
And now, his art carries a message far beyond just a design.
What Is a Stroke?
A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either by a blockage or a rupture. Without oxygen, brain cells begin to die, making fast action absolutely critical!
That’s why knowing the warning signs can save a life.
Remember BE FAST
One of the easiest ways to recognize a stroke is the acronym BE FAST:
- B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
- E – Eyes: Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- F – Face: One side of the face drooping
- A – Arms: Weakness or numbness in one arm
- S – Speech: Slurred or difficult speech
- T – Time: Time to call emergency services immediately
Every second matters.
Why Awareness Matters
Too often, stroke symptoms are missed or dismissed. But quick action can mean the difference between recovery and long-term disability, or even life and death.
Sharing this information, talking about it, and spreading awareness can truly save lives.
A Shirt With a Purpose
To honor Uncle Andy’s journey and raise awareness, we created a stroke awareness design, one that represents strength, perseverance, and hope.
When you wear it, you’re not just wearing a shirt.
You’re helping start conversations.
You’re reminding others to learn the signs.
You’re supporting a story of resilience.
Our Mission
At Alex And Andy, everything we create comes from a place of purpose. Andy hand draws every design using his left hand, a powerful reminder that even after life changes, your story isn’t over.
For this upcoming Stroke Awareness Month, take a moment to learn the signs, share this message, and hug your people a little tighter.
Because awareness saves lives.
